FAQ

So what is an ibclc, anyway?

In essence, IBCLCs are Infant Feeding Specialists. We support you on your journey, whatever that journey looks like. While we may primarily focus on preserving the breastfeeding relationship, we also counsel on pumping, bottle feeding, returning to work, introducing solids, and eventually weaning.

By definition, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is an integral member of the maternal-child health team. An IBCLC provides direct care, and also makes appropriate referrals to other health professionals as needed. In addition to providing expert breastfeeding and lactation care, IBCLCs are healthcare professionals who specialize in the intimate relationship between the mother/baby dyad and the clinical management of breastfeeding.

what can i expect at my appointment?

We’ll start with a complete history of you and your baby, including your birth experience. If the consult is virtual, I may ask for some photos or videos to help with assessment.

Depending on your concerns, I will most likely observe a breastfeeding or bottle feeding session and take your baby’s weight before and after feeding to determine milk transfer.

We will work together to create a comprehensive care plan to resolve any issues you and your baby may be experiencing, and with permission this plan will be shared with your OB, Midwife, Pediatrician, or any other healthcare provider who may be involved in resolving your feeding issues.

I will reach out to you via text two days after our initial meeting to assess if any further care is needed. Of course, you’re welcome and encouraged to reach out to me prior to and after our follow up should you feel the need. I do my best to return calls and texts within a few hours.

What payment methods do you accept?

I gladly accept cash, check, credit card, or Venmo @MilkFaceBreastfeeding

What is an angel consult?

The Angel Consult is my simple promise that should the worst happen during your pregnancy or birth and you become the parent of an Angel, I will help you either quickly stop your milk production, or pump to donate your milk, at no charge.

If we had a prenatal consult, you will receive a complete refund.

Do you take insurance?

I am in network with Aetna, Meritain, and 1199.

For most other insurances, your visit may be covered through The Lactation Network. If you do not have Aetna, Meritain, or 1199 and would like to verify your benefits with The Lactation Network, please click here. If your insurance is accepted, you will not have to pay out-of-pocket, and there is no fee for using this option.

I do believe every parent is entitled to support. If you are either uninsured, underinsured, or would prefer to self-pay for whatever reason, please contact me so we can work together to help you and your tiny human.
